My publication CSO writes about security and risk management issues. It’s a rich subject matter that connects hacking, fraud, shoplifting, disaster recovery, the mob, terrorism, you name it. These are some of the more interesting pieces we’ve done if you’re not in security management — to crib from a former colleague, these articles are “at the intersection of security and pop culture”.
Retail security – fun with shoplifting, the mafia, point of sale terminals (Ever notice the surveillance cameras pointed at the checkout lane? They’re watching the clerks, not you), etc.
CSO Daily Dashboard: security news, feeds and alerts in an at-a-glance format
Security at an offsite meeting: Test your knowledge of risks.
Social engineering: the basics Sneaky tactics people use to get what they want from you (without you realizing it).
The seven deadly sins of social networking Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, you name it – you can create plenty of problems for yourself if you don’t watch what you’re doing.
Crowd control at sporting events
The connection between crystal meth, China and copper theft
This is great stuff. I especially enjoyed the bit on Pompeii Stadium. Modern stadia are a royal pain, so I rarely want to go to, say, a sporting event nowadays. (Unless perhaps it’s a Marlins game where the attendance may or may not reach quadruple digits.)
Re: image spam. The spam may get through, but a distinct disadvantage is that it’s easily recognizable as spam to the human eye. Although I’m probably giving people too much credit there. There’s enough people who don’t know better.
And people think security is boring. :)
