Word of the day: Homothallic

Used to describe a fungus or alga (that’s the singular of algae) that produces two different cells which then fuse to form a zygote, i.e. said organism can reproduce all by its lonesome.

I begin to see how VanderMeer got into this fungal stuff. It’s got its own intriguing lexicon.
