The Playstation supercomputing cluster

So cool. Wednesday night I was talking with some technical folks; one of them mentioned that you can get an Xbox on eBay for chump change, and I made a wisecrack about buying a bunch and rackmounting them.

Wouldn’t you know...

    Anything that can run Linux, and that is anything from ipods to IBM mainframes, can be put in a cluster.

    My cluster (I guess the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory actually owns it) is currently up to 96 nodes with 240 processors, but we’re using boring old regular computers :)


  2. This has nothing to do with your post, but I wanted to know how you were doing with your new year’s resolution. The one where you were determined to become fatter and less patient.
