Prohibition

But then came a blow greater than any of these [biological threats to North American winemaking]: Prohibition….between 1918 and 1933. Vine growers limped through, making supposedly sacramental wine and shipping huge quantities of grapes, juice and concentrate to a nation which suddenly discovered home wine-making, with the warning “Caution – do not add yeast or the contents will ferment.”

  1. I’m still shocked at how little our country’s leaders learn from History. The “Drug War” rages on at billions of dollars per year and tens of thousands of unnecessary incarcerations at further cost to society.

    Stupid.

  2. as i recall Derek, you sent me a photo of you in the fall. do you have any others that i might have copies of, as i am polishing or elaborating the essay on you from my previously established prolegema series?

i must make sure that you get what you deserve, not least of which in comparison to other persons who have already been ‘treated’!

  3. David – sorry! Can you substitute pictures of Mark Harmon? Just around the eyes. That’s the only celebrity I’ve ever been compared to.

I don’t have my work computer tonight but will look for a pic tomorrow morning.
