Poutine

Poutine. French fries mixed with cheese curds and smothered in brown gravy. Lots more pictures and details on this excellent poutine page. “There’s nothing like the surprise of finding the hidden cheese curd layer. Mmm…delicious…”

Originated in French Canada, although now you can get it pretty much anywhere north of the border. If you want to.

In Toronto we stayed directly across the street from Smoke’s Poutinerie, their tagline “How Do You Like Your Poutine?” suggesting you can mix in all kinds of different stuff – guacamole, pulled pork, onions, mushrooms, peas.

Haven’t tried it, shouldn’t knock it, but I can’t say it calls out to me.
