On select summer Saturday nights, Providence RI sets itself ablaze.
“Waterfire” is the name of the art installation set in the rivers, designed by a local named Barnaby Evans. On these summer evenings – this has been going on for 13 years now – they load the braziers with firewood and light them at dusk. It’s quite a pleasant sight that has helped transform downtown Providence into a happening place. If you like you can hire a gondola ride through the burning river.
I like the name Waterfire. Simple and striking.
